On 13th November 2010, Aung San Suu Kyi was released from more than 15 years of detention.

Burma Action Ireland welcomes her release, but warns that this does not indicate a significant change in military policy.

Speaking on her release in 2002, Aung San Suu Kyi said “My release should not be looked at as a major breakthrough for democracy. For all people in Burma to enjoy basic freedom – that would be the major breakthrough.”

Write to Aung San Suu Kyi

Daw Suu Kyi may not receive your card (as all mail is monitored), but nonetheless, a multitude of cards addressed to her will undoubtedly remind the military regime that she is not forgotten and the world is watching. In the longer term, this will help to keep her safe.

The address is as follows:

Aung San Suu Kyi
54 University Avenue
Bahan 11201
Yangon,
Myanmar (Burma)
